Windows2000, Pads, and ... novell network

I understand that there is an issue with trying to run a W2K client on a Novell network. Trying to read network drives is SSLLOOWWW. I can deal with that. But I can't work around Pads. I can not access libraries on the network. Other programs are able to handle this problem, but not Pads. I haev submitted this to PADS, but they want to just blame Microsoft and Novell.

Any ideas?

Hmm, I am not having an issue. Well OK, sometimes accessing the network is slow due to compression. but Library access works fine.

Reading my Microsoft servers doesn't seem to be any faster than Novell, but they aren't high performance servers either.

My Novell client version is 4.81. I don't recall anything special needing to be set though I thought with NT6 I needed to turn off file caching.

Currently the client properties are
File Caching ON
File Commit OFF

Win 2000, SP3
Novell Client 4.81
IP connection using Directory services
Novell server 5.x

Well thats good to hear. Mentopadveda's answer was, yeah we know it's a problem, but it's novell and microsoft's problem.

My setup i spretty much the same, but I haven't installed SP3 yet. I'm going to present your answer to my IS group to see if they'll let me install it.

I may be back to ask you about more of your settings.

Still no luck.

When you say you are using IP connection using directory services, do you mean you are using IP (not IPX) as your default protocol, and your remote procedure call service is DCE cell directory service, not Windows Locator?

OK, I tried matching all of the settings - still no luck. Next I will try installing the previous client version. That's the only difference between our systems now.

Wouldn't be the first time a bug fix upgrade created new bugs.

Sorry to hear that, 10 years ago I administrated Novell and knew a little more, but today, I only know what I see on the client.

FIXED!

I installed the SP1 for client 4.83, and it worked. SSSLLLOOOWWW, but it worked. I moved my libraries from a v4 server to a v5 server, and everything runs like a charm!

It would be nice if either PADS or Novell could have pointed out that there was a fix for file access problems, so I didn't have to dig throughout the Novell site for a patch.
