Here is the breakdown of the 120 questions on the CID+ exam (The X Test). The Y test is for those who fail the X test and reapply to retake the exam. This is what I went through. I took the X test and failed (because I did not study) and when I took the Y test, there were 40 questions that were identical to the X test and 80 questions that were different.

Here is the X test question breakdown:

Layout - 23
Electrical Considerations - 15
Material Properties - 10
Component Requirements - 7
Assembly - 11
Fabrication - 9
Physical Board - 9
Documentation - 11
Inspection & Test - 9
Reliability - 16

A passing score is 72% correct answers (or 87 correct answers). The highest score to date was Jeff Mellquist from WIND RIVER with a score of 93% and he completed the two hour exam in 1/2 the time.

Jeff Mellquist is the creator of the pcbstandards.com land pattern calculator and most of the Library Documentation including the AutoCAD pictures in the Library documentation and Library portion of the Handbook (Chapters 1 - 13). Jeff also created the Trace Amp calculator and the pcbstandards.com AutoCAD Tools.

Steve Garrett from WIND RIVER scored an impressive 87% on the CID+ exam and is the primary librarian of the pcbstandards.com 3-Tier surface mount library decals for PowerPCB.
