Greetings all : is it just me or does the Landpattern Calculator not have a option for BGS's?

Thank you..

Raul,

That's a good question. The reason why the Land Pattern Calculator does not have a BGA Tab is because I build all BGA's for free. It's my goal to build every BGA in the world.

This is how it works. Get the BGA PDF file and rename it the standard naming convention.

Ball Grid Array’s, Inch Based (1.27mm Pitch) = BGA + Number of Pin Columns X Number of Pin Rows - Pin Qty
Ball Grid Array’s, Metric Based (1.50mm Pitch) = BGAM + Number of Pin Columns X Number of Pin Rows - Pin Qty
Ball Grid Array’s, Metric Based (1.0mm Pitch) = BGAP + Number of Pin Columns X Number of Pin Rows - Pin Qty
Ball Grid Array’s, Metric Based (0.80mm Pitch or less) = BGAF + Number of Pin Columns X Number of Pin Rows - Pin Qty
Ball Grid Array’s w/Staggered Pins (.127mm Pitch) = BGAS + Number of Pin Columns X Number of Pin Rows - Pin Qty

Then delete all pages in the PDF (if they can be) except the cover sheet and all the mechanical data stuff.

Then e-mail me the BGA PDF file and I will e-mail you back the BGA library part in PowerPCB V4 format within 24 hours. Now isn't that better than having a BGA calculator?

I built four BGA's this week for designers all over the world. I'll be glad to build yours.

Here's the statement that pcbstandards.com is trying to make. We have in our library every QFP, QFN, PLCC, SOIC, SOP, Chip Resistor, Chip Capacitor, Chip Inductor, BGA, DIP, ETC. in the world. Example: We have 178 QFP's in our library. This is every QFP in the entire world. We have 226 SOIC's in our library. This is every SOIC in the world (we hope, but we don't know unless you can't find the decal you're looking for in the library). We are trying to collect every BGA in the world, so send me your BGA PDF datasheet.

Tom : thank you! thats very kind of you to offer to build a BGA library part, the only thing is that our host Cad system is PCAD2002. However i did locate your work sheet and compared your BGAP16X16-256 Land Pattern, and your numbers match mine.

question Tom:

- where do you factor in the soldermask swell for BGAP16X16-256 ?

- do you build parts for other CAD PCB softwares

Raul,

For a 1mm pitch BGA, the pad size is 0.5mm and the solder mask oversize in the library is zero. I.E.: We make the solder mask the same size as the pad for every library part and let the PCB manufacturer do the over-sizing.

This is primarily due to the fact that we simultaneously design dozens of PCB's with different technology. Some have 0.1mm trace/space some 0.12mm trace/space, some have 0.15mm some 0.2mm and we use multiple manufacturers. So rather than a blanket oversize, we leave it up the manufacturer to determine the best oversize for their specific manufacturing process.

I hope this makes sense.

Tom : makes sence, I understand now.. do you think the Land Pattern calculator will have BGA calculation option in the futur for those who can not utilize your generosity of footprint creation and are not PADSPOWER users?

Thank ya Tom.

Raul,

I will put in your request to add a BGA Land Pattern Tab to the Calculator. My best guess is that it will be available the first week of October. I'll post a reply here when it's ready.
