Hi everyone,

I would like some advice on translation, if anybody would be able to help I would appreciate it.

The problem is as follows:

I am encountering difficulties when translating hpgl to dxf; it seems that I lose all line weight when creating the dxf file. The end result that the "higher-ups" desire is to be able to import the dxf schematic into solidworks to create a tif file with other notations on it. It seems that when they try to plot it, my schematic "part" plots very light (i.e. line weight = 0).

The schematic is in the dxdesigner format; from there, I export to hpgl. Next, using CAMCAD professional, I convert to dxf. And no matter what I do adjust line weights, apertures, etc,.the end result is a zero line width dxf file. Possibly, there is a better way.

I know that I can create a PDF output of the schematic, can this be translated to dxf???

We've even called consultants & they have not been able to ameliorate the situation.... Any ideas, guys????

Thanks.

I think this is how it works. The conversion creates LINES, which have zero width in AutoCad. You want PLINES, but it does not do that. Nothing you do will change that it's a LINE, not a PLINE.

The solution in AutoCad is to use line weights based on layers/colors. Not sure about Solidworks. Maybe someone else will add to this.

I would ask the experts at HPGL, DXF and Gerber translations.

They are:

One other thought is you could use (at least in AutoCad) a script to convert the lines to PLINES, or maybe use a GERBER to DXF translation which can convert to PLINES using the supplied DCODE widths.

Here are a few other things you can check -

What is your pen width when exporting the HPGL?

When generating the DXF does CamCad give you the option of using the current line width or exporting as a "0" line width - most cam packages do.

There is another software package that does an excellent job of translating HPGL files to pretty much any format - it is called HP2Design and is sold by a company called ZoomOn (taylor made software) - a few hundred bucks if I recall, you can try the limited use demo to see if it solves your problem.

To be honst with you, i dont know if CAM350 will do it any different than CADCAM, but if you want to send me the HPGL file i can convert it and send you the resulting dxf.

The software we use for converting hpgl to dxf or dwg format is called HPGL2CAD from Guthrie CAD/GIS Software in Australia.

It converts HPGL lines to PLINES rather then LINES by default.

The price for a single licence was very cheap and for a three seat licence a little over 100 GB pounds.

The contact details are:

Jerry went to a psychiatrist. "Doc," he said, "I've got trouble. Every time I get into bed, I think there's somebody under it. I'm going crazy!" Just put yourself in my hands for one year," said the shrink. "Come to me three times a week, and I'll cure your fears." How much do you charge?" A hundred dollars per visit." I'll sleep on it," said Jerry. Six months later the doctor met Jerry on the street. "Why didn't you ever come to see me again?" asked the psychiatrist. For a hundred bucks a visit? The bartender cured me for $10." "Is that so! How?" He told me to cut the legs off the bed!" Ain't nobody under there now!!!----------------------------------Do you look for free wow gold?
