When Tom mentioned that Mentor rules, I don't think he was saying he was using Boardstation or Expedition. I think he was saying that because he's using Mentor's newest product... PADS

Yeah for today... well tomorrow he well be using the tool
Mentor has md'd (manufacturing discontinued)..
It costs to much to surport all those tools.. some of them
got to go.. IMHO all they wanted was view logic and
the ability to force the Pads users to migrate to Expediation..
Well we will see..

Mentor migrating customers to Expedition? You certainly don't mean PADS customers (companies). They're used to the "low cost alternatives" and once they see the costs of Expedition they'll be running for Protel, or whatever comes out before the end of the year.

(heeheehee, Cadence has the preferred front-end... Orcad. Whoever used anything other than orcad or Viewlogic, what is that now?, for schematic capture? Anyone use PADS Logic?

Moving PADS users to Expedition will be about as successful as moving them to Boardstation... ;)

I do not have the number of Viewdraw installs.

Where, by chance, do you get these numbers? Could you tell me the number of BS users vs. Allegro vs. Expedition vs. PADS users worldwide?

The 17,000 PowerLogic Users was mentioned last week at the last Innoveda User Group conference when they annouced that Mentor will no longer be supporting that schematic software with upgrades. There will be a clean interface with Viewdraw for both schematics and libraries. Or you can stay on PowerLogic as long as you like and it will always be integrated with PowerPCB. But we know how that goes.

The 264,000 OrCAD users came from a press release just prior to Cadence purchasing OrCAD.

I have never read a press release on Allegro or Expedition installs.

I have heard Innoveda talk about 12,000 companies being on yearly maintenance for PowerPCB but no mention of how many seats that equals. We have 10 seats here, but we only get one CD with each update.

Cadence Rules !!!!! Been on it for 6 years now(been doin boards for 23 years). Have my own seat of Design Studio at home. Also have v12.0 Accel EDA. Would love to do some side work!!!!!
