I am a new designer and am possibly looking for some kind of formalized training that I can take. Does anyone have any good schools or training that I could go to improve my skill set? The company I am working for is willing to send me to training. I was thinking about getting the IPC certification material and was wondering if that would be worth it? My background is in elctromechanical design and have just recently started to layout pcbs.

One of the best teachers in the PCB design / PowerPCB industry is Patrick Colcernian. In the next two weeks Patrick will be training PCB designers from three different companies. Many of the students are beginner designers. I have had the privilege of teaching Patrick the PCB design industry over the past 14 years and we have collaborated on many literary projects, one of which is a 600 page PowerPCB/Specctra Training Manual (Printed in full color). Now Patrick wants to pass on the knowledge and has become one of the top teachers in our field.
Patrick and I are hosting a Technical Presentation regarding Library Construction in two weeks at the Innoveda User Group Conference. One of Patrick's strongest credentials is that he knows and teaches how to use the pcbstandards environment. Patrick played a major role in creating the PowerPCB environment. Once you know how to use the environment it will dramatically increase your productivity. Most designers have doubled or tripled their output capacity due to total automation.
All students receive the 600 page training manual and a 300 page full color Wind River / pcbstandards Library Handbook.
Patrick offers training from the Chicago area. For one on one/two training or travels to your site for three or more. Patrick's company name is AcuCAD.
