View Full Version : DFT Audit - decal name length > 16

Two years ago, the DFT Audit tool would sometimes give us Out Of Memory Error if the design had a decal with a name greater than 16 characters in length. In some cases, the only way to run DFT Audit was to rename the decal to a shorter name.

Because of this, our site's decal library has 16 character max length for decals.

I just called Innoveda tech support, and they didn't have anything saying "yes that bug was fixed on release so and so"... they tried a small test, and said it worked. But at the same time, tech support said the DFT Audit tool had not been changed in a long time. Since this bug was not 100% repeatable, I'm wondering if there's anyone that uses DFT Audit with long decal names.... and has still seen it happen, or can say "no that problem used to happen, but doesn't anymore". I think maybe Tom H. used to have this problem too?

Thanks, Chris H.

Chris,

We used to have this problem with PowerPCB V3.5, but it went away with PowerPCB V4.0. We haven't had any problems with long decal names in a while now. We just ran into this issue last week when Motorola wanted to review one of our PCB layouts and asked for a PowerPCB V2.0 ASCII file. CRASH! No can do.

Thanks Tom... after you responded, I also got a call from Innoveda Tech Support, confirming that this problem was indeed fixed under version 4.00
