I have created some components with alphanumerics but when I go to save them the parts section doesn't show up after I save them. The decal shows up fine but when i look in the parts section it comes up not found. Am I saving the decal wrong? Is there another way of saving alphanumerics parts?
Thanks
Steve

In the decal editor, you save the part and it should ask you if you wanted to save the part type also, right? And if you say yes, it asks for a name with a default the same as the decal. And you click okay and it saves it. Check to make sure it's to the right library.

Now where were you adding alphanumeric pin assignments?

Randy I was creating a 432 pin BGA and I am also modifing a right angle PCI connector. I did what you said but when I look in the parts section for the part it says not found. I save the decal and part in the same library.

One thought. If you are in ECO mode adding a part, and you have the GET PART dialogue box open, and edit a part. Then saveas as a new part and decal, it will not be reflected in the dialogue box unless you close it and open it, or change the filter.

If that is not it, we need to go over in detail what you are doing. What are the specific steps. You have to be in the part type editor in order to assign alphanumeric pins, right?

Randy , I was creating a new part decal which then asks you if you want to create a new part. I said yes and it looks like it creates a new part but when I look in the parts section it says not found. I am using the wizard to create the decal with JEDIC pinning A1,A2,A3 like that. I then save the decal and then it asks for a new part name. I use the same name as the decal and save the part, but when I go into the parts menu to look at the part the name is there but when I click on the name it says not found. I hope I didn't confuse you with alphanumerics name.

There is a slight bug in PowerPCB with BGA part type creation. What you need to do is go into the new Part Type, select the PCB Decal Tab and Unassign a "Phantom Part" and Assign the correct BGA decal. Then you will see your Alphnumeric Pins. Just remember to do this every time you create a BGA until this bug is fixed. It would help if you would report this problem to support@innoveda.com . Let me know if this works for you.
