Is there any program/programs that help to translate a .dsn file to be able to read and edit by PADS?

There is at least two companies that make translators.

When you say DSN file, you are referring to the schematic?

The PCB files in Orcad can be translated in Orcad to PADS. Works too.

I do not have the original. It was sent to me with a .brd and a .dsn, i suppose that it is from OrCAD layout as the .dsn file differ from others. Reason is because, I tried to open it with other layout but couldn't. I do not have any payable program. Thus I have to find free ware to solve this horrible problem. I believe that the .dsn file is a schematic.

How big is this board youre looking to translate? I thought Orcad can either export a PADS file or PADS can import a Orcad file I will have to double check when i get back into the office....

PS there are hardly ever a "free" solution when it comes to translation......

If you're refering to its size, the .brd file is roughly 8.7mb and the .dsn is roughly 0.78mb. I hope that you're able to help me through this. As long as the PADS is able to read and edit both of it. Its fine. Even if the software found is not free, please state.

-.dsn file might be a OrCAD layout as I've tried freeware that is able to open .dsn file unable to open this one.

Is the only CAD tool you have is PADS? What version of PADS are you working with?

The Orcad Layout saves files as *.PCB. And you can output from inside ORCAD to PADS as an ASCII file which can be read into PADS.

The DSN file is the schematic in Orcad. That you can't translate to PADS, but you can output the rules/netlist.

I am not sure what the *.BRD file is.

.BRD file is just like .PCB with all the layers, pins and components. I have tried opening just to VIEW the .BRD file and .DSN file. .BRD is just like a .PCB file but I guess the file format differ. And .DSN is just like .SCH, also, the file format differ.
I only own PADS. I need to be able to read and edit with PADS. I need one program to be able to translate it to PADS layout for further editing

Sorry for any inconvience cause.
Tried many forums and alternative softwares but it just won't help.

I have to wait till i am back in the office tomorrow and have access to Orcad.

I could take a look at the file for you perhaps (If i have time, we are slammed with work) and tell you what format the BRD is and if it can be translated to PADS......

*.BRD could possibly be:

-Cadence Allegro <---assume it's this since Allegro layout and Orcad schematics work well together
-Eagle Layout
-Winboard <---out of business

Good day.

- .brd file is normally the Cadence Allegro layout (PCB layout) ; could be Orcad Layout, but I don't think so
- .pcb is a PADS PAD layout
- .dsn file is an Orcad Capture schematic design file (get it? schematic capture!)

OK, if I understand what you are saying, then you have some very old files - if you VIEWED them using Wordpad or Notepad or other ascii based editor and actually saw a lot of ascii info, then the .pcb file could be from any of about a dozen older layout tools - Tango, Accel, older Protel, DC Cad etc... and if you opened the .dsn file and also saw a lot of ascii info, I'm not sure what you have, I've never looked at an old Orcad file, but there was at least one CAM tool that used the .dsn extension and come to think of it CAM350 also uses the .pcb extension.

To All:

An OrCAD layout to PADS layout conversion/translator is needed here. Am I understanding RandyChase correctly? That an OrCAD layout can be output in a PADS format, or to an ascii file? I am using PADS 2005 SP1. Not sure what version of OrCAD I'd be dealing with.

thanks for info
