Hi,

I have a question on SMT reflow soldering. For a gull-wing type component lead, if the smt pad width is equal to the maximum width of the component lead in datasheet would this be acceptable for reflow or wave soldering? What would be the consequences if this was ran through the assembly line?

Thanks,
Jason

Just my opinion, but I do not think this is optimum. If for no other reason than pin-to-pin tolerances. A pad with the exact width of the max lead may create a condition where the lead overlaps the land.

There are many things one can do and things will still work, just not be the best quality which can affect yield and also issues in the life of the product should a solder joint be marginal.
