Hi Friends

I want the details about how to calculate the via drill size according to the trace width. Please any one kindly help me.

Thanks

Bit of an odd question this one, as generally speaking trace width is not normally the deciding factor of a via hole size, it usually is the pad size used.
My general purpose via size has a 48mil/1.2mm pad with a 24mil/0.6 hole (12mil/0.3mm of land around the hole).
This allows it to be used with my standard size tracks of 10/12/25/40 mil.

For my "tight boards" that use 10mil tracks with 10mil gaps ( I design industrial protection and control equipment) I us a via that has a 20mil/0.5mm pad with a 12mil/0.3mm hole (4mil/0.1mm of land)

The hole size of 24mil/0.6mm is (in my experience) the smallest size that allows the board manufacturer to stack the laminates, so that several panels can be drilled per drill run. As holes get smaller the boards/panel get drilled as singles which takes longer and can incur additional cost.

Hope this helps.

There is an approach in calculating drill hole size to approximate equivalent in trace width.

First, you have to know the specifications of your fabricator on how thick they will be plating the hole. Once you know this information, you can compute the equivalent hole for the via using Cross-sectional are approach.

That is;

cross-sectional area of your trace=cross-sectional area of your via.
