We received a Protel 6 design to take a look at and none of my tools can open the design. Older version of Protel says to close the file immediately. My old translators i have claim they need a ACII version of the file, but i am not familiar nor do i have Protel 6.

Any way to get this to Mentor or Cadence format?

OK guess i am just talking to myself in here. Figured out when it says it needs version 6 it means like version 6.5 or higher geezzz. Well all translated to mentor.....

I've been reading your posts, I was going to offer to look at the file, I have old versions of Protel and Tango at home, but I kinda figured you would think I'm going after your business - not true, but I've neen translating files for years, and if I can help I will.

It's all good, dont mind talking to myself because then its documented on here if someone else runs into the issue.

What was wrong is the design was saved in the latest greatest version of Altium which nothing will open, not even AutoVue. Couldnt even find a free viewer. Sent it to someone with a version of 6.0.2(or something) and they couldnt even open it. Come to find out it needs to be version 6.5 or higher.

Of course i could have had the customer output it in standard Protel ACII, but the problem is they were pulling someone else off the design project and didnt want to go back to them.

Hi:
Anyone know of any way to convert Cadence Version 1.0 Layout (include library) files to Altium Designer 6? In the Designer 6, I can import from Orcad, Pads, Protel 99, Pcad, and Circuit Maker, but no Cadence. Any help will be much appreciated. If anyone can convert the files as a service, I will definitely be interested. Thanks.

Was there ever an Allegro ver. 1 - for some reason I don't think so. OR do you mean Orcad Layout ver. 1 - prior to Cadence.

I have a similar problem, because I have to import ViewDraw (mentor graphics) schematics in Altium Designer 6. Is there any tool to translate and convert these files? Thanks.....

Hi,

Latest Version in altium is 6.7. In this we can import the Dxdesigner files along with Libraries and it will convert into Altium Designer files.

For opening the Altium Designer files u can use the same version, because 6.7 is the latest we can open any previous version of altium designer files.

thanks & regards,

Bhagyamala

I would need a sample ViewDraw file to play around with to see if its translatable....

Hi Gizzmo,

I'm a new member here. I have pcb design files which has schematics drawn using DxDesigner's ViewDraw, and then it's exported to Zuken's Layout Editor for PCB design.

Can I convert these files into Protel 2004? (cause this is the one I'm familiar with).

Or could you suggest any other cheaper solution?
