Hi all,
I'm an user of Powerpcb and there is a urgent task need to be layout in Expedition and I only have a short timing to learn the software. Any advise how I can expedite and learn Expedition in the shortest time. How is Expedition compared to Powerpcb?

Thanks in advance for advise.

Best regards,
NB

Hi Newbie,

Expedition is VERY different from PADS. Don't expect to master Exp in a few weeks like you can PADS. Exp is much more library / netlist dependant. Not very easy for on-the-fly manipulation like you can with PADS. Somethings are easier, somethings you'll scratch your head and wonder why it's not doing what you want.

I'm a long time Cadence user, and moved to a design group that was implementing the Mentor flow. What an experience! Exp seemed easier than Allegro, but it just seemed too simple. Then I moved to a company where I did PADS and Cadence. PADS was simple and quick to master. (I still don't like their ECO function, plotting, making gerbers, etc. but it was easy to learn). Also the scripting is nicer in PADS and Allegro.

The trick is "learn the tool" and add it to your resume. Never know when you'll need the experience.

Good day.

HI Newbie

i used these tools.

As cadpro2k told EXP is library/netlist dependent. u have to prepare all cell that r comparable to decal in power pcb. here in EXP also u have to set the different properties like net properties ,net class and clearence parameters, setup parameters etc. u can also use "reuse" pcb block or the certain part of ur pcb design into another pcb design quite easily once u define all these properties u can easily do the rest.

the ECO function quite helpful for those who also involves the schematics design and making any changes or modification in the design for the u don't have to do the same thing in pcb

you just go through the "EXP PROCESS DESIGN GUIDE" SO that at least u can know the flow.
