Hi Everyone,

I started to use OrCad Layout ver. 10.0.0 recently.
It comes with footprints libraries.
I wonder how reliable the footprints are.
I'm concerned about pads size and spacing between pads mainly for standard SMD like chip passive componets, discrete semiconductors and ICs.
I have compared footprints for 0603 resistors from 3 sources:
Orcad Library, PCB Standards Land Calc (eval. version) and from IPC.
Unfortunately all are different.
Obviously,I prefer to use OrCad footprints because they are (almost) redy for use.
But are they reliable?

Hi Aleksander,

I use Orcad and I check every one of their parts before using them. I usually have to tweak it somehow...line widths, lettering sizes, etc....As for pad sizes, I change them 90 % of the time just to conform to the Land Pattern Calculator nominal size or the manufacturer's recommended land pattern.
