I am trying allegro to design boards. I always am in a mess when come to the color and visibility panel. I can't understand all the meaning of group manufacturing and group geometry. I also can't find useful information in the help documents. could anybody provide some information about this?
Best regards.

Hi W,

Allegro's visibility controls are based completely on "CLASS/SUBCLASS" designations.

It very simple when you catch the drift of how allegro was set up.

1) Geometry. Anything to do with parts or board geometries (i.e. outlines, silkscreen outlines, part body information, etc) is in either Board or Package (part) geometry. This is where you'd define things related to parts or boards. So, GEOMETRY is the CLASS, Board Geometry is a SUBCLASS; Outline is a subclass of Board Geometry.

2) Manufacturing. Is generally used for making page formats (Drawing Format subclass) or doing the Drill information for a fab drawing (Manufacturing/NC_Legend or NC_Figure)

3) Stackup. Most all things related to copper. Meaning traces, vias, copper fills, Copper design rule checks (DRCs)

4) Components. Things like component reference designators (U1, U2, etc) Either for ref des silkscreen ID or ref des assembly (top/bottom) ID. Normally you'll only be messing with Component/Ref Des.

5) Areas. This is where you'd set areas for DRC checking. You can define VIA keepouts, Etch Keepouts, Component keepins/keepouts, etc.

6) Display. Simply where you can "personalize" your design's environment.

Hope this all helps. Let me know if you need more info. Glad to have you onboard.

Mitch

Thanks for you help. It appears to me that these subclasses, such as top-room,switch-room,place-bound-top and so on , get me into a mess.Could you provide me some information about the meaning of these subclasses?
Best regards.
