View Full Version : Stitched Via's Disappearing Act

I placed stitched gnd via's on my board by selecting the gnd net, right clicking, then selecting 'add via'. What I discovered today is that these via's are glued upon placement. I unglued all the via's so I could revise on the fly, as I am overwhelmed with design changes.
This is bad.
With those via's unglued, when I try to move or delete a stitched gnd via, or delete ANY trace segment or via of ANY net, all those stitched gnd via's disappear. Poof.

Can anyone tell me why this is? I ate up 1 hour of my time solving this.

Ok, I think I have it...

I tried individually unglueing and moving...that particular via simply disappears upon position placement.

I did find a way, however. Select the via, cntrl E, a pop-up window appears with a checkbox "allow move of glued object and don't ask me again". Check that and it allows all future moves with no disappearing act.

There is a line you can add to your ini file that is supposed to fix this problem.
I'm sure someone on this list can tell you what it is.

Add this line to powerPCB.ini file
under [ECO Preferences]

[ECO Preferences]
KeepStitchingVias=1

Thank you!

I will pass this on to other designers I know that despise using 'unsupported' stitched via's.

I broke my cardinal rule here. I spoke before I checked.

My powerPCB.ini file has the keepstitchingvias=1 already.
I tried =0 and had the same results.

If I select and query the via, unglue, then move, it disappears at drop.

If I select the via, cntrlE, check the 'Always allow move and don't ask me again' box in the 'Glued Via(s) detected. Proceed anyway?' popup window, all is well.

Make sure KeepStitchingVias=1 is typed exactly this way.

Why are you ungluing vias in the first place?

When placing stitched via's by:
select net
add via
the via(s) are automatically glued upon dropping.
I've had to move some of these via's because of ECO's rolling in.
