Hi,

I would like to know heaviest copper we can use on a PCB and still maintain 8/8 spacing and line width.

Or in other words, is there any std design rule specs around for specifying the starting trace widths and min spaces needed to achieve the nominal trace width for a given copper weight.

Thanks a lot,

Tim

hi Tim
the answer depends on the technology of your PCB shop there are companies that would surprize you as to there fine line ability in heavy copper. My old shop could produce 8/8 in as thick as 10 oz of copper, but there are not many shops that can, i would suggest you should be able to find some shop that can do 8/8 in 3 to 6 oz, have you thought of multiple levels of copper, where the power traces are in 6 to 12 oz and the SMT or fine traces are in 2 oz?
if you e-mail me I can give you the name of a shop that can do that technology.
