I have downloaded some library files for Protel DXP but when I tried opening it on Protel99SE, it doesn't work? Is it possible to run the dxp files to protel99se?
Does Protel have a built in PADS to Protel conversion program?
If so, what revsion of PADS does it go back to? V2, V3 or V4?
Of course V4 would be the best, and V3 would be the second best.
I can provide PADS Library ASCII Files that can be imported into most systems, Allegro, CADStar, Pantheon, etc.

Thanks Tom. I'm not sure what version of Protel I am using because I am kinda new in this software.
We are currently in the process of upgrading our libraries to match the new (unreleased) IPC-7351 specification. This only affects the standard parts like SOIC's, QFP's, Chip Parts, SOJ, PLCC, SOT-23, etc.
We are also working on a new neutral database format called OffSpring. By 2004 every CAD vendor should have OffSpring Import / Export capabilities. Our 8,000 part CAD library will be available in OffSpring format.
Talk to your Protel Sales Rep and ask if and when they plan to incorporate OffSpring (XML data) into their software.
Protel is very similar to PADS. Ask your sales rep if Protel can import PADS ASCII data and if it can ask them what version of PADS (V2, V3 or V4).
We really need to get a Protel Library created that matches the IPC-7351 spec.

Hi Tom,
Just browsing the Protel and it can import PADS ASCII, ver 3, 4 and 5. I just downloaded the padsimporter.exe. Can you provide me the ASCII files you are referring to? Also I am going to make a standard footprint for every packages. What is the best thing I can do to make the job faster and easier? thanks very much.
I sure can send you the current library files.
This would be great to get the library into Protel format.
Thanks for you very generous offer.
