Pick & Place Tool

Hello Everyone,

I would like to know about pick and place tool. For SMD components the center is geometric center, but for thro' hole it is pin 1. So for thro' hole components how pick-place tool works?

Through Hole components used to have Pin 1 as the origin, but we relocated the origin on all through hole parts (DIP's, Resistors, Diodes, Capacitors, etc.) to the center years ago and the assembly shop likes that.

In the Site Index the free "TH" (Through Hole) Library has every part with a center origin.

It works really nice for PCB Design Part Placement too. You can rotate the part and it spins perfectly. Like if I wanted to rotate a resistor 180 degrees and pin one was the origin I would be forced to move the part. When the origin is in the center you just rotate the part and it never moves location.
