OK, I thought I knew how to get the default colors to stay around, but I must be doing something wrong.
How can I get the color palette to be what I want when I launch the decal editor?

there is a bug there, you should load your palette everytime you open the decal editor.
Gary,
modify decaledt.asc located in the PowerPCB directory to your liking. There is one section of entries specifying the color for different items per layer.

I can relate to this problem.
In all the versions of PowerPCB V1, V2 & V3 when the user set the color display in the Decal Editor, those colors stayed the same for ever until the user changed them and then they would stay like the change.
Now when you select colors and exit the Decal editor the colors revert back to the installation default.
What happened? This feature was perfect for the past 6 years and now it's broke with V4.0.
I'm attaching the "Decaledt.asc" that goes with the pcbstandards libraries. The colors are all defined. Just backup your ols Decaledt.asc to Decaledt.sav. See attachment.
