How well does Orcad Capture and Pads PowerPCB work together?

i.e.
How would one take a schematic from capture and bring it into PowerPCB?

Yes, that is quite common. I beleive there is some aftermarket program for linking those two (PCBNavigator from Precience), but in any case, you can output the PowerPCB netlist from Orcad. You can build your Orcad schematic so that it calls the correct parts from the PowerPCB library, though I never bother. I use Orcad just for connectivity.

There is a DLL you can download on this site for creating the right format/header out of Orcad for PowerPCB.

We run Precience Navigator to make netlists for PPCB. It would be nice to have the option of using a direct Orcad Netlist.

(Precience Navigator also allows, single component, interactive cross-probing between schematic and pcb layout. Helps justify Dual Monitors for parts placement).

Could you direct me to the DLL you mentioned? PPCB V5?

Any hints for setting up the Capture "Combined Property String" will be appreciated.

In addition to RefDes and PType, it would be nice to get attribute fields Description, Value(eg 4.75K), and CompanyStock# to import into Pads for reports.

The PCB Footprint field in your Orcad schematic symbol properties has to match the decal name in your library.

I am also interested in having more properties transfered between OrCAD and PADS PCB.

I am revisiting this software since out Board guy left and I have the pieces to pick up...

The other issues I have are regarding updates in the schematic and feeding that through to PADS PCB without screwing everything up. But we can perhaps consider that later...

I also finally worked out the ECO process... not entirely intuitive but I guess I can live with it :D
