View Full Version : Anode marked instead of Cathode

The first time I encountered this dilemma, I didn’t mark the Cathode on the actual part. I did place the schematic symbol on the board. The problem arises because the anode is marked on One of the diodes, but the cathode is marked on the others. I am concerned the assembly will place the diode not noticing the anode is marked on the part. For the time being I have placed a note on the drill drawing along with the part being circled to draw attention.

Anyone have any better ideas?

If you created use assembly documentation, this would be handled that way.

But.. IMO, the correct polarization of diodes (and caps) is something the is the responsibiity of the assembler. I believe in helping them as much as possible, but if I supply a silkscreen that shows the correct polarity, they should know how to install the part, because I have had suppliers change parts and polarity is not always marked the same.

For example, I might show a radial leaded cap with the positive symbol on one end. The actual cap has a stripe on the negative end. The assembly shop needs to know this and assemble them accordingly.

Same with LEDs.

But I do think what you did makes sense, circle the part. Point to it. Make a note.
