i need to add some text as silkscreen in one decal but i don't know how pads is going to manage that..if i just add free text to top layer is that copper? and if is copper how can i make text in the top silkscreen layer for a decal? for example suppose that i want to put a part number for a filter in its decal, and i want that to be in the silkscreen layer...

thanks

Be very careful here!

I don't recommend using free text in the decal. Make it an attribute like the reference designator. That way you can move or delete it when you want.

If you place text on layer 1 in the decal, it will work correctly as far as printing to the silkscreen legend, but it messes up the spacing checks because it is looked at like copper on layer 1, even though it is not. I don't know if this was fixed in Ver4, but that was the way it worked.

I quit using text and used line segments for postive symbols on caps for example. But now we can use attributes. Even better.
